Chancellor Mike Bishop last week extended an invitation to faculty, staff and students to visit UCSF Mission Bay on Friday, Oct. 28.

"Since the 1999 groundbreaking for Genentech Hall, we have completed three research buildings, a major housing complex for students and scholars, Koret Quad, two parking structures, and the campus Community Center," he wrote. "A child care center and additional research buildings are on the way. There is much to see and to celebrate!"

Here is his full message to the campus community: Dear Colleagues: You are cordially invited to a campus and community celebration of UCSF Mission Bay on Friday, October 28th between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm at the Mission Bay campus. Come and tour the newly opened campus Community Center, including the Bakar Fitness & Recreation Center, as well as the new housing facilities; hear presentations from scientists about current research, as well as from staff regarding the plans and progress made at UCSF Mission Bay; enjoy musical entertainment and a $3 barbecue lunch on Koret Quad. Details can be found here; a complete schedule of presenters is available here. Since the 1999 groundbreaking for UCSF Genentech Hall, we have completed three research buildings, a major housing complex for students and scholars, Koret Quad, two parking structures, and the campus Community Center. A child care center and additional research buildings are on the way. There is much to see and to celebrate! Staff employees should seek approval from their supervisors to attend the celebration. As departmental and business needs allow, supervisors are encouraged to provide release time for the period of time approved to attend this special event. Getting there: If possible, please use UCSF shuttles to reach Mission Bay. Expanded direct shuttle service to Mission Bay will be available from the Parnassus campus. For those who must drive, free parking is provided in the Community Center Garage, adjacent to the Community Center on Owens Street, off 16th Street. I hope you will be able to join in the celebration. Sincerely, J. Michael Bishop, M.D.
