Thomas B. Newman, MD, MPH, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics and of pediatrics, will talk about the "New Nuclear Danger and What You Can Do about It" at a noontime seminar on Thursday, Aug. 11.
Presented by the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Division of Clinical Epidemiology, the seminar will be held in Millberry Union West, fourth floor conference room MU 427 on the Parnassus Heights campus.
In this special seminar -- marking the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki -- Newman will briefly review the history and effects of nuclear weapons and the new danger of nuclear terrorism. He will contrast the current Bush administration's unilateral, pro-nuclear approach with that proposed by the Physicians for Social Responsibility. Newman serves on the steering committee of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of PSR.
Physicians for Social Responsibility is a leading public policy organization with 24,000 members representing the medical and public health professions and concerned citizens, working together for nuclear disarmament, a healthful environment and an end to the epidemic of gun violence.
