The Alzheimer's Association and the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease will host some of the world's leading Alzheimer's disease researchers at a symposium on Thursday, May 26.
The first Bay Area Alzheimer's Disease Research Symposium will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the J. David Gladstone Institutes, 1650 Owens St., Mission Bay, San Francisco.
Scientists from the Gladstone, UCSF, the Buck Institute, UC Davis and Stanford University will highlight promising Alzheimer's disease research being conducted in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. A half-hour tour of the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease will follow at 2 p.m. This invitation-only symposium is intended for professionals in the field, including researchers, students and postdoctoral fellows.
"Gladstone brought Alzheimer's disease research to the Mission Bay campus with its move here last October," says Lennart Mucke, MD, director of the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease Director who also holds the Joseph B. Martin Distinguished Professorship in Neuroscience at UCSF. "We are thrilled to co-host this exciting event. It will illustrate how current research can contribute to the development of better treatments. We also hope that it will foster further collaboration in this important field of research."

The Alzheimer's Association is the nation's largest private funder of Alzheimer research. Since its founding 25 years ago, the Alzheimer's Association - through its peer-review process - has awarded $165 million to nearly 1,400 projects, including for important work in the Bay Area.
The Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease is one of three research institutes of The J. David Gladstone Institutes, a private, nonprofit biomedical research institution affiliated with UCSF.
