UCSF Hosts Women's Health Summit Today
As part of Women's Health Month in California, the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health (CoE) will sponsor a summit on women's health policy today at Genentech Hall.
The groundbreaking summit, specially designed for leaders in women's health, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Genentech Hall, 600 Sixteenth Street, UCSF Mission Bay campus, San Francisco.
Health care providers, public agency representatives and advocates for women will create a shared vision for improved women's health care throughout the Bay Area. Discussions will focus on challenges to access in health care, funding dynamics between the private and public sectors and collaboration as a vehicle for solutions and social change.
"We expect to learn about best practices of collaborative efforts that have already produced solutions and social change," said UCSF School of Medicine Vice Dean Nancy Milliken, MD, director of the CoE. "We're convening an innovative, interactive 'think tank.'"
The summit's concluding session will include panelist Martha Burk, who will discuss collaborative organizing on a national level. Burk is chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations, a network of more than 200 national women's groups collectively representing ten million women. She is co-founder and president of the Center for Advancement of Public Policy, a research and policy analysis organization in Washington, DC.

Attendees will also preview preliminary plans for the new UCSF Women's Hospital at Mission Bay.
