Spring Osher Lifelong Learning Course Focuses on Older Adults
The UCSF Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) continues its second year this spring with classes that explore health problems commonly experienced by older adults.
Classes will meet on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon on May 7, 14, and 21 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. Tuition is $50. Single lectures may be purchased on site for $20 each.
Taught by UCSF expert faculty, the course, titled "Preventive Health Care for Older Adults," will provide participants valuable information on how to prevent and cope with the conditions brought on by diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis and other health problems.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn and ask questions about what really works for preventing and coping with these conditions. Some of the questions to be answered include: How can exercise help with arthritic pain? What types of foods should you eat? What can you do to prevent heart disease and cancer?
The course chair is Joan B. Wood, PhD, adjunct professor in the departments of social and behavioral Sciences and medicine; director of the Northern California Geriatric Education Center; associate director of UCSF Mount Zion Center on Aging; campus planner, UCSF Academic Geriatric Resource Center.
