Short Takes - 2005-01-31

Very few kids today would buy parents' stories of walking miles to school - in the snow. Even in the face of growing concerns about obesity and lack of exercise among kids, a Stanford study of eight urban and suburban elementary schools in Columbia, SC, found that a mere 5% of students walked or bicycled to or from school. Socioeconomic status, weather conditions or even time of day were not factors in the low rate. The study appears in the American Journal of Public Health.
