Children's heart expert to speak at UCSF mini-med school on March 24

* WHAT: David Teitel, MD, will discuss “The Heart of the Matter: Congenital Heart Disease in the Newborn”  at the second lecture of the Spring UCSF Mini Medical School, a series for the public continuing through April 21.

* WHO: Teitel is a professor of pediatrics and chief of pediatric cardiology at UCSF.  He is the medical director of the Pediatric Heart Centers at UCSF Children’s Hospital and at UC Davis. An expert on changes in heart function during development, from the fetus to newborn to the mature heart, he leads the UCSF team specializing in every aspect of care for children’s hearts. He has made major contributions to the use of cardiac catheterization to diagnose heart defects in the smallest infants—and to treat some types of defects that once could only be repaired with open-heart surgery.

* WHEN: Wednesday, March 24, 7:00 to 9:00 PM (one-hour lecture followed by Q&A)

* WHERE: Cole Hall on the UCSF campus, 513 Parnassus.

## UCSF Mini-Medical School:

UCSF Mini Medical School VI is open to the general public and designed for people who want to learn more about science and the intricate workings of the human body. In addition to children’s heart defects, this series includes sessions led by renowned experts on maternal-fetal surgery, children’s cancer, diabetes, allergies, vaccines and the immune system, and pain.
