New deans named for UCSF Fresno

By Janet Warnert

The University of California, San Francisco, (UCSF) School of Medicine recently announced that Joan Voris, MD, has accepted the position of associate dean for UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program effective December 1, 2002. Voris succeeds Deborah Stewart, MD.

Earlier this fall Susan Wall, MD, was appointed senior associate dean for UCSF Fresno and Graduate Medical Education. Wall serves as the primary liaison between the Fresno Program and UCSF School of Medicine Dean’s Office.

“I am grateful that Drs. Wall and Voris have taken on this new challenge,” said Haile Debas, MD, and dean for UCSF School of Medicine. “They are both experienced leaders who have been UCSF faculty members for numerous years.”

Joan Voris, MD, has been a member of UCSF Fresno faculty for over 20 years. Before being appointed associate dean of UCSF Fresno, Voris was the medical director of ambulatory care at University Medical Center in Fresno.

As the new associate dean for UCSF Fresno, Voris is responsible for providing the leadership necessary to develop research and medical opportunities to train culturally sensitive doctors of the future.

“The next few years promise to be very exciting times for UCSF Fresno,” said Voris.  “As we step into a new era of medical education with the opening of the Medical Education and Research Center in 2004, I hope to do all I can to better serve our community.”
