A few words of inspiration from UCSF PhD candidate @victoriakcheung, first-generation college graduate. .
#UCSF #UCSFLife #FirstGen #HigherEd #Neuroscience #WomeninSTEMDr. Nancy Ascher, the first woman in the world to conduct a liver transplant, right here at UCSF, shared a few words of wisdom during International Women’s Month earlier this year.

#UCSF #UCSFLife #UCSFWomen #UCSFquotes #WomeninSTEM40% of students UC-wide report going hungry or skipping meals due to lack of funds.
.
To combat this, the UCSF Basic Needs & Food Security for Students team has implemented a variety of programs, from a food market with free fresh produce, an app that shows when catered leftovers are available on campus to an Instant Pot cooking class that teaches how to create inexpensive meals.
.
This Thanksgiving, we are grateful to be able to empower our students to nourish their minds and bodies so they can focus on becoming the next generation of health leaders.

#UCSF #UCSFLife #SanFrancisco #community #MedEd #HigherEd @ucsfdentistry @ucsfmedThanks @victoriakcheung for reminding us to take a break and step outside once in a while.

"How cool is this hawk/falcon flying @ucsf mission bay??? What a good reminder to step outside of lab once in a while and just appreciate what’s outside. Also, it’s a nice day 😌"

They won the Nobel Prize for discovering this "ocular dominance" plasticity in 1981.
.
38 years later, UCSF scientists in the Stryker lab have finally caught this phenomenon in action — using 2-photon microscopes to observe brain circuits rewire themselves to adapt to changing sensory input. This work may help us understand how brain circuits form memories and what goes wrong in neurological diseases.

– David Corpman, Air Force Veteran, UCSF Medical Student.
.
On this Veteran’s Day, we commemorate the courageous veterans and military-affiliated students, staff and faculty at UCSF.
.
Their extraordinary life experiences give them a unique perspective and we’re #UCSFProud they chose to pursue a health sciences career at UCSF.
