This view never gets old ❤️.⠀

The @ucsfdermatology team wrapped up one workday with this breathtaking scene from the SFGH rooftop. Tag a teammate that you’d watch the sunset with in the comments below.⠀

But these communities wanted to protect their children from obesity and diabetes, and they wanted healthier options.⠀
.⠀
UCSF partnered with city agencies for a fresh solution: water-to-go.⠀
.⠀
Guided by UCSF research, the city is installing water-filling stations in neighborhoods with higher sugary drink consumption. The new stations allow for reusable bottles to be easily refilled with pristine Hetch Hetchy water.⠀
.⠀
With over 100 hydration stations already installed and more on the way, San Franciscans are many sips closer to better health.⠀

#UCSF #UCSFLife #research #water #hydration #health #UCSFintheCommunityUCSF students are passionate about giving back to the community! Thanks to @UCSFDentistry student @xtinahshih for giving us something to smile about with this story 😁:
.
“My favorite event of the year: Give Kids a Smile Day! Thanks to all the faculty, residents, dental students, predental students and staff for coming together to provide preventative dental care to 102 kids. Extremely grateful for my team for all the support this last year 🥰 So honored to have been a part this since D1 year and can’t wait to be a provider next year!”

#UCSF #UCSFLife #UCSFProud #ucsfdentistry #ucsfsod #ucsfgkas #cphan #gkas #givekidsaamileday“It has been amazing,” says Dr. Louis Ptacek about working alongside his partner, Dr. Ying-Hui Fu. “She is an amazing scientist whose work I admired long before I met her. Her strengths are different than mine and over the course of our career together, we’ve done much more together than the sum of what we would have done alone. I feel incredibly blessed.”⠀
.⠀
Both neuroscientists at UCSF, the couple studies the science of sleep, including making the discovery of a "short-sleep gene" that allows some people to get by with less sleep than others.⠀
.⠀
Dr. Fu didn’t hesitate to reciprocate the positive feelings. “It has been an extremely rewarding journey. Working closely with your partner naturally brings out some difficulties, yet what we can do together makes all the challenges easy to overcome. I am very grateful for all the things that we have been able to accomplish as a team. I could not have hoped for a better partner for my scientific adventure.”⠀
.⠀
You know what they say… “The couple that researches together, stays together.” Happy Valentine’s Day from our #UCSFFamily to yours. ♥⠀

This is my Uncle Billy⠀
"In my family there's a running joke⠀
We always ask "where's your POCKET teeth" essentially asking him where are his dentures were because we knew he only pulls out from his pocket to eat sometimes⠀
As I grew older I understood that his dentures were uncomfortable so I vowed to myself if I ever had the opportunity I'd help him out⠀
Blessed enough to gain admission into dental school and make it to clinic⠀
Excited to embark on this denture case with you unc PC: @sannacharlie & shoutout to the shooter she really helped me understand the magnitude of this moment a kid from Bayview SF local making good thank you for that lesson"⠀

#UCSF #UCSFLife #HigherEd #MedEd #dentistry #goals #bayviewWelcome to campus, Dr. Burke Harris!
.
California’s first Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris and UCSF’s Dr. Edward Machtinger chatted about training medical providers to screen patients in the Medicaid system for childhood trauma. Dr. Burke Harris is leading the state’s effort to implement screening for childhood trauma.

.⠀
By growing brain-like tissue in the lab, scientists hope to understand early brain development. Some have even worried whether these cerebral organoid models could become so close to human brain tissue that they cross ethical boundaries. But a new side-by-side comparison with real developing brain tissue reveals that organoids fail to develop even the rudimentary organization of the human brain. Until these problems are resolved, claims that organoids can model human brain diseases or brain functions should be taken with a grain of salt.⠀

#UCSF #UCSFLife #research #instascience #scicomm #organoid“We know what’s ahead of us,” says UCSF climate physician Katherine Gundling. “But we also know we can bend the curve. Some people may see addressing climate change as a moral imperative. But as health care professionals, it’s much more tangible than that. The moral imperative to engage with the climate crisis grows out of the consequences we see for our patients.”⠀
