Jeffrey Bluestone, PhD

Jeffrey Bluestone has transformed our understanding of the immune system and translated scientific discoveries into breakthrough therapies. A longtime UCSF professor and leader, his pioneering research in immune tolerance has advanced immunotherapies for autoimmune disease, organ transplantation, and cancer, including the first FDA-approved treatment to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes.

A pioneering leader in public health and infectious disease, Julie Gerberding has brought people and disciplines together to tackle some of the world’s most complex health challenges. A UCSF alumna and former faculty member, she became the first woman to lead the CDC, guiding the agency through SARS, anthrax bioterrorism, and other emerging public health crises.

Ambassador Eric Goosby, MD

Eric Goosby has devoted his career to transforming HIV/AIDS care and advancing health worldwide. An internationally recognized infectious disease expert and UCSF professor, he helped pioneer San Francisco’s model of HIV care, led the Ryan White CARE Act program, and oversaw the expansion of PEPFAR, bringing lifesaving treatment to millions of people around the globe and aggressively moving countries toward elimination of pediatric HIV.
