Earl Chism, MD
Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership – Student 

As a third-year pediatrics resident, Earl is recognized for creating meaningful connections with his patients. His work spans patient care and the workplace to provide racially concordant care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Dena Dubal, MD, PhD
Chancellor Award for Advancement of Women — Faculty 

Dena Dubal, a physician-scientist, explores why women live longer than men globally and whether this translates to insights about better brain aging for everyone. She also mentors scientists who are transforming research and medicine in areas such as dementia and Parkinson’s.

Joanne Engel, MD, PhD
Chancellor Award for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Leadership — Faculty 

Joanne Engel is chief of Infectious Disease at UCSF Health for the past 20 years and co-director of the Integrative Microbiology Program. She has worked to mentor physician-scientists and build up the infectious disease division to make it an inclusive environment for everyone.

Ryan Hernandez, PhD
Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership — Faculty 

As a professor in Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, Ryan supports trainees to become the scientific leaders of tomorrow. In his own lab, he has worked to bring together people with a wide range of backgrounds who can help to ask different, more impactful questions.

Graham Hinchcliffe, MS
Chancellor Award for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Leadership — Staff

An academic specialist coordinating clinical research programs in HIV prevention and treatment, Graham created the Pride Pin Pledge. The pledge offers an opportunity for people at UCSF to access training, events, and resources to build an inclusive community at UCSF.

Colbey Ricklefs, MD, MPH
Chancellor Award for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Leadership — Student 

A clinical fellow in adolescent medicine and a postdoctoral research fellow, Colby creates supportive environments where youth can thrive. Through UCSF’s Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine clinic, he provides specialized care and conducts research to improve health and youth access to health care.

Abdur Shemsu
Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership – Staff 

Abdur is the associate director of corporate partnerships at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and the founder of the Black Caucus affinity group. He works to bring people together, build community, and help uplift all staff and patients in the Oakland hospital.

Brooke Vance, MPA
Chancellor Award for Disability Service — Staff 

A senior Academic Affairs administrator in Pediatrics, Brooke champions digital accessibility through her leadership of the digital accessibility subcommittee. She advocates for tools that are accessible to everyone. Her work creates environments where people with disabilities can thrive independently.
