UCSF Team Unites for AIDS Walk

UCSF AIDS Walk Team was hard to miss, and not just because of the matching gold t-shirts commemorating 30 years of AIDS. Almost 300 UCSF employees participated, making UCSF one of the largest teams at the event.

"We've had the numbers and they keep growing," said Joey Convento, a coordinator for UCSF Arts & Events. UCSF has been a part of AIDS Walk San Francisco since the event began 25 years ago, and it has also been a mainstay in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

"We've gone on to lead the nation to provide care for people living with HIV," said Jay Dwyer, RN, a study coordinator for the UCSF AIDS Clinical Trials Unit. "But one of the best reasons it walk is to show our support for the still-needed efforts."

Convento, who lost a friend to the virus six years, has a similar motivation.

"It meant more to me now than it has ever been to raise money," he said.
