Universal Health Care Coverage

The debate over how to make health insurance available to everyone in California made it's way to those dealing with the crushing costs of health care. State Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez visited UCSF Children's Hospital Saturday morning to detail his plan for universal health care, and Mayor Gavin Newsom made a surprise appearance to support statewide coverage. Speakers at a health care town hall meeting held at UCSF later that day supported a single-payer system. Andrew Bindman, MD, chief of internal medicine at San Francisco General Hospital, commented on the benefits of universal health care coverage.
