UCSF Campus Wins Systemwide UC Ready Excellence in Mission Continuity Award
UCSF recently won the UC Ready Excellence in Mission Continuity Award for exceeding the UC Office of the President’s target for completion of business continuity plans during the first year of implementation of the UC Ready planning tool.
UC Ready is a program to prepare the entire University of California to continue its teaching, research, patient care and public service mission throughout any disruptive event. If forced to pause operations, UC must be able to rapidly restart.
Needing a tool to enable this joint readiness effort across the UC system, the University built the online UC Ready planning tool. Currently in its third edition, UC Ready remains the only continuity planning tool designed specifically for higher education and available to all UC departments and units.
At UCSF, the growing use of the UC Ready tool has been championed by Esther Silver, CBCP, PMP, CISM, business continuity program manager in Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the UCSF Police Department.
The systemwide award reflects upon UCSF’s exemplary performance in the implementation, development and completion of continuity plans as well as the commitment by the leadership and staff from many UCSF departments and divisions to planning for the continuation of their essential functions after a disaster.
The award was presented at the annual systemwide risk summit to UCSF Police Department Chief Pamela Roskowski and Christopher Jones, director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the UCSF Police Department.
Representatives from all of the campuses and medical centers gathered at the summit, including those from Risk Management, Environment, Health & Safety, Emergency Management, Sports and Recreation, Workers’ Compensation, Occupational Health, Disability Management, General Counsel, Human Resources, just to name a few. At the end of the two-day summit, Risk Services awarded UC groups for their exceptional risk mitigation accomplishments.
