UCSF to Honor Three for Advancement of Women on March 30

Claire Brindis, Michael McGuire and Sunita Puri

UCSF Chancellor Mike Bishop, MD, on Monday will recognize three members of the campus community with the Chancellor’s Award for the Advancement of Women. The awardees, in the faculty, staff and student/resident/postdoctoral scholar categories, respectively, are:
  • Claire Brindis, DrPH, professor of pediatrics and health policy, Department of Pediatrics and the interim director of the Phillip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies;
  • Michael McGuire, director of Operations for the Call Center and Operator Services, Ambulatory Care Center, UCSF Medical Center; and
  • Sunita Puri, a third-year medical student in the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program.
The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 30, from noon to 1p.m. in Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus. This award recognizes exceptional efforts towards the advancement of women at UCSF beyond the scope of an individual’s job, area of research, or student training. Both women and men are eligible to be nominated for this award for achieving one or more of the following: elevating the status of women on campus; improving campus policies affecting women; participating in career and academic mentoring for women; generating and disseminating knowledge on women's health through research, teaching, and public presentations; and/or advancing the admission, recruitment, and upward mobility of women at UCSF.
