Campus to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

UCSF will host two Cinco de Mayo celebrations today and Friday this week. Faculty, staff, students and others are welcome to enjoy the musical entertainment from the Pena-Govea family today (May 2), from noon to 2 p.m., in the Millberry Union Conference Center on the Parnassus campus. Another celebration is scheduled for Friday, May 4, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Koret Quad at the Mission Bay campus. Lunch will be provided. Cinco de Mayo, "The Fifth of May" in Spanish, is a national holiday in Mexico which is also widely celebrated in the United States. It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over the French occupational forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Both events are sponsored by the Latin American Campus Association (LACA) with funds provided by the Chancellor's Cultural Enrichment Fund.
