Campus Hosts Talks on 'Wellness' Programs

As the year 2005 is well under way, UCSF employees are encouraged to take a good look at wellness programs offered by health plans. UC-sponsored medical plans all provide numerous "wellness programs' and resources covering a variety of health care needs. For example" many plans offer programs for fitness, weight control, nutrition, smoking cessation, massage therapy, disease education, and many other useful resources for 'free' or at a discount. Those wanting to learn more about these resources can do so in February during noontime presentations. Kaiser, Blue Cross, Health Net, PacifiCare and Definity Health representatives are conducting presentations on the Parnassus campus to show UCSF employees how to navigate the "wellness" component of their websites, how to find a "wellness program" that fits their needs, how to access discounted services and much more. "Being educated about your health and making healthy lifestyle choices can play a significant role in reducing your health care costs and improving your quality of life," says Pamela Hayes, health care facilitator at UCSF. Sponsored by UCSF Campus and Medical Center Human Resources/Benefits, programs will be held on the following Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m.: • Kaiser - Feb. 2, Parnassus, Medical Sciences Building (S), room 214, • Blue Cross - Feb. 9, Parnassus, Medical Sciences Building (S), Cole Hall • Health Net - Feb. 16, Parnassus, Health Sciences West (HSW), room 301 • PacifiCare - Feb. 23, Parnassus, Health Sciences West (HSW), room 301 • Definity Health -- March 2, Parnassus, Medical Sciences Building (S), room 214
