UCSF’s Resource Allocation Program (RAP) Accepting Applications for the Spring 2017 Cycle

By Emanuela Volpe

UC San Francisco’s Resource Allocation Program (RAP), which offers a single online application process for a wide variety of intramural funding opportunities, is now inviting applications for the Spring 2017 cycle.

Through this collaborative effort, RAP facilitates the dissemination, submission, review and award of intramural research funding opportunities on campus.

The electronic submission deadline is Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at 2 p.m.

The RAP website provides helpful information and guidance on the application process. Be sure to review the Submissions Rules and the Eligibility Summary Matrix before submitting your proposal.

This Spring Cycle RAP welcomes a number of new funders and is excited to continue building on existing grant mechanisms. Depending on the nature of the grant offering, new funding agencies can decide to take advantage of existing grant mechanisms or offer new ones.

Through RAP, funding agencies share best practices and adopt successful models for publicizing their request for applications (RFAs). RAP’s tag line of “One Application, Many Funding Opportunities, One Deadline” is reinforced with each cycle.

The success rate for getting funded remains high (it was 48 percent in Fall 2016) because most RAP proposals are considered by multiple funding agencies. This enhances the likelihood for a single applicant to be funded. Check out the statistics of prior cycles on the RAP website under Resources. In there, one can also learn about the most recent awardees and their projects. This may also lead to identifying one’s next collaborator.

RAP Leadership has recently appointed Roland Henry, PhD, to the newly-established Faculty Representative for Diversity on the RAP Executive Committee. This role will serve to foster diversity in our campus-wide intramural funding program. We are excited to have a former RAP chairman serving in this capacity and be able to contribute from his personal experience as a longtime faculty and research scientist.

In an effort to support the applicants, especially junior investigators and researchers new to UCSF, RAP will be offering a couple of ‘Q&A’ drop-in sessions. We look forward to these interactive sessions to better understand their needs and to offer the most appropriate guidance.

  • First Session: Feb. 14 from Noon-2 p.m. in Genentech Hall, Suite 116
  • Second Session: Feb. 23 from Noon-2 p.m. in Genentech Hall, Suite 116

Contact the program at [email protected] if you’d like to schedule a session.
