Demonstrations Anticipated at UCSF Mission Bay Monday; Closures and Delays Expected

Due to changes in details of the telephonic UC Regents' meeting scheduled for four campuses beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, the UCSF Police Department is preparing for anticipated public demonstrations at UCSF's Mission Bay campus, according to UCSF Police Chief Pamela Roskowski.

As a result, a decision was made late Wednesday to close the Mission Bay Rutter Center and Bakar Fitness & Recreation Center at Mission Bay. The Rutter Center parking garage will remain open via the West parking entrance but the entrance off of the horseshoe area will be closed. 

The UCSF Child Care Center at Mission Bay is expected to remain open. However, parents should monitor local news media during the weekend and on Monday morning to determine if they wish to bring their children to the child care center.

The following safety precautions were issued in a campus bulletin Wednesday evening by the UCSF Police Department:

• Keep perimeter doors to Mission Bay buildings closed and locked to avoid disruptions.
• Avoid delays by planning ahead and having an alternate route or flexible work schedule planned if you must be at Mission Bay on Monday.
• If unauthorized or suspicious persons occupy any part of your building or work area:
  • Immediately call UCSF police and report the activity.
  • Do not attempt to confront or remove them yourself.
  • Lock your office and leave the area if possible.
  • Remember to take all personal belongings with you.
• Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
• Contact the UCSF Police Department to report any suspicious persons or activities near your campus residence or workplace at 9-911 from a campus phone or (415) 476-1414 from any other phone.
