Free Campus Workshop Series to Focus on Career Enhancement

Members of the UCSF community are invited to attend any of three upcoming career-enhancement workshops, focusing on résumé writing, interviewing and financial planning. The series, “Advancing Your Career in Uncertain Times,” is presented by the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, the Center for Gender Equity and UCSF Human Resources. The workshops are free and open to all. The first workshop, Résumé Writing, will take place on Tuesday, April 7, and will cover topics such as proper formatting and adapting a résumé to appeal to a specific target audience. The session will be led by a representative from the global outplacement and career development firm Lee Hecht Harrison. The second workshop, Interviewing, will be held on Tuesday, May 19, and also will be led by a career consultant from Lee Hecht Harrison. The workshop will incorporate the strategic interviewing method, in which the applicant creates a dialogue with the interviewer to gain a better understanding of the needs of the hiring organization – and can then tailor his or her responses accordingly. Participants will prepare for different types of interviews, including screening interviews, telephone interviews and group interviews. The final workshop in the series, Improve Your Financial I.Q., is geared toward women and will take place on Thursday, June 11. Oakland-based financial planner Leona Lau will guide participants through a self-evaluation process to help them assess their financial position and determine financial goals. Lau also will offer tips on ensuring a sound retirement and handling money wisely at every stage of life. Event details:
