M. Anthony Pogrel

Longtime Professor M. Anthony Pogrel, BDS, MB, ChB, has been appointed to the newly created position of associate dean for hospital affairs in the UCSF School of Dentistry. In his new role, which takes effect immediately, Pogrel will oversee the school’s interactions and help solidify its relationships with UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Francisco General Hospital and other affiliated hospitals, according to School of Dentistry Dean John D.B. Featherstone, PhD. Pogrel will work closely with Mark Kirkland, DDS, the School of Dentistry’s associate dean for clinical affairs, a position created in early 2008. Pogrel joined UCSF in 1983 as a faculty member within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and he became a professor and chair of that department in 1994 – positions he will continue to hold, in addition to his new post as associate dean. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has published more than 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks.
