Campus to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Chancellor's Concert Series

The kickoff concert to celebrate a decade of the Chancellor's Concert Series is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6, at the newly renovated Cole Hall in the Medical Sciences Building on the Parnassus campus. The campus community is invited to a tenth anniversary reception with cake and punch, starting at 11:30 a.m. A concert featuring the Alexander String Quartet performing works by Shostakovich will follow. The Chancellor's Concert Series is a professional, classical music series funded by Chancellor Mike Bishop, MD, to enrich the quality of life at UCSF and in the community. These free half-hour concerts feature artists primarily from the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music faculty. The fall 2007 season features 10 concerts and runs through Thursday, Nov.15. During last year's revamping of Cole Hall, the popular lunchtime concert series went on the road, appearing at Millberry Union Conference Center, the Laurel Heights Auditorium and Mission Bay's Genentech Hall. This year, two concerts will be performed off the Parnassus campus. The concert on Sept. 27 will be held at the Genentech Hall Auditorium, and the last performance on Nov. 15 will be held at the Laurel Heights Auditorium. Download the full schedule here. Founded in 1998 by former UCSF Chancellor Haile Debas, MD, now executive director of Global Health Sciences, the concerts are very well attended. The concert series is directed by Pearl Toy, MD, and produced by Campus Life Services' Arts & Events. David Watts, MD, reads poems before the concert. Seating begins at noon. Concert attendees may bring their lunch and eat it from noon to 12:15 p.m. Eating is discouraged during the concert from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. To check for news updates about these and other events, go to the Campus Life Services website, or call 415/476-2675.
