City Program Seeks Summer Jobs for Youths

UCSF campus and medical center departments can partner with the Mayor's Youth Education and Employment Program (MYEEP) to give youths from economically disadvantaged San Francisco neighborhoods meaningful summer employment.

MYEEP provides subsidized summer employment for teens ages 14 to 17. This means that participating UCSF departments do not have to contribute to the wages for the summer youth worker. Young people can work up to 20 hours a week.

UCSF managers and supervisors will have a chance to interview the young people before making a selection.

Other summer job requirements include:

* identifying a UCSF supervisor to work with the youth, * providing a job description outlining job tasks and what the student will learn while working at UCSF, and * attending a brief work site orientation meeting.

In addition, supervisors working with youths must be fingerprinted in accordance with state and federal law.

The worksite application deadline for the summer program, which runs from July 2 to Aug. 12, is Thursday, June 1, 2007.

For more information about MYEEP or to get an application form to participate in the program this summer, contact Lessa Manotti, employment coordinator at the MYEEP Central Office, at 415/202-7903, ext. 124 or [email protected].
