Lesbian Health Institute to take place as part of annual GLMA Conference

By Nancy Chan

On Wednesday, October 11 from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the UCSF Lesbian Health and Research Center will sponsor a Lesbian Health Institute in conjunction with the 24th Annual Conference of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association in San Francisco.

According to organizers, the Lesbian Health Institute is a precedent-setting event that focuses on lesbian health, a field of study that the Institute of Medicine classifies as overlooked and underserved.

The Institute is one of five special programs being offered as continuing education credit throughout the five-day conference. Speakers will discuss current research relating to lesbian relationships, substance abuse and cancer. Other pre-conference institutes and symposiums will focus on HIV/AIDS, transgender health, cancer in LGBT communities and disorders of sex development.

There is a $30 general registration fee to attend the Institute or $55 registration with continuing education credits (CME and CEU).  The event will take place at the Renaissance Parc 55 Hotel located at 55 Cyril Magnin Street in San Francisco. Participants can register on the GLMA
web site or call (415) 502-5209 for more information.
