School of Medicine
training tomorrow's healers
Teaching was UCSF’s original mission, and even as the University
has grown in status as a research and patient care institution,
education remains primary. Consistently ranked among the nation’s
leaders in medical education, the UCSF School of Medicine continues
to attract the best and brightest students and train them to become
outstanding clinicians and investigators.
UCSF promotes academic excellence across the continuum of medical
education, from teaching and training students to providing lifelong
learning for experienced physicians. The School’s new curriculum,
introduced in 2000, now serves as a national model of innovation
in medical education, and its prestigious Academy of Medical Educators
sets high standards for teaching. A recent visit by the Liaison
Committee on Medical Education, the nationally recognized accrediting
authority for medical education programs, reconfirmed the School’s
reputation for innovation and excellence.
Support for medical education is essential to maintaining UCSF’s
excellence as a teaching institution and will help to ensure that
the challenges of 21st century medicine are met by a generation
well-prepared to accept them.
