School of Pharmacy Fundraising Priorities
At no other pharmacy school in America are students exposed
to such breadth, depth and quality of pharmaceutical research
and clinical training. Innovations to UCSF’s PharmD curriculum,
begun 35 years ago, continue today and have become the training
standard for all schools of pharmacy.
As an acknowledged leader in the field, the School is uniquely
poised to grasp the possibilities that lie immediately ahead in
pharmacogenomics, medical bioinformatics, quantitative biology,
consumer self-care and patient care. The School is dependent,
however, upon private support in its efforts to remain on the
cutting edge.
Featured fundraising priorities of the School of Pharmacy include:
Center for Chemical Diversity
The Center for Chemical Diversity will condense the drug development
process by creating comprehensive chemical “libraries”
that can be analyzed and manipulated using the latest in information
technology. Gifts to this priority will fund faculty endowments,
create state-of-the-art laboratories and aid the development of
new techniques for collating and manipulating biochemical information.
Center for Consumer Self Care
Almost half of all health-care consumers use over-the-counter
medications and other complementary therapies. Gifts to the Center
for Consumer Self Care will fund research on self-care practice
and outcomes, postmarketing surveillance studies and educational
programs that provide the information needed to empower individuals
to make informed decisions about their own treatment.
Center for Pharmacogenomics
The multidisciplinary Center for Pharmacogenomics will explore
the creation and delivery of “smart drugs”—medications
tailored to best interact with the specific genetic characteristics
of individual patients. Gifts to this fundraising priority will help
establish the Center by providing resources needed to assemble
core faculty, secure laboratory space, design new teaching and
research programs and forge new links with the pharmaceutical
and biotechnology industries.
UCSF Fresno Pharmacy Outreach Program
To expand the School of Pharmacy’s outreach to underserved
areas of the rapidly growing Central Valley, the School is seeking
support for the UCSF Fresno Pharmacy Outreach Program. Gifts to
this priority will help establish a training site in Fresno for
UCSF PharmD students and fund program development and faculty
positions there.
