Library Fundraising Priorities
The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management serves
not only as a repository for health sciences scholarship, but also
as a center for development of electronic information resources
and the hub of instructional computing on the UCSF campus.
As computer resources become increasingly important to UCSF faculty
and students, private support is needed to sustain and enhance
the Library's capabilities and ensure that it remains one of the
preeminent health science libraries in the world.
Featured fundraising priorities include:
Center for Instructional Technology
As UCSF's Schools enhance their curricula and embrace new educational
technologies, the Library's Center for Instructional Technology
provides the tools to support their efforts. Established in 2001,
the Center's staff and facilities enable the effective use of
multimedia and computer-based resources in educational programs
throughout UCSF. Gifts to the Center for Instructional Technology
help expand services to meet the increasing needs of faculty and
students and contribute to the continuing advancement of curricula
through the introduction of new services and technologies.
Digital Library Initiatives
With the advent of new, computer-based sciences such as bioinformatics
and genomics and the proliferation of online medical journals
and databases, recent years have seen an explosive growth of biomedical
data online. It is critical that students, faculty, researchers
and caregivers at all UCSF facilities have ready access, and the
Library is working to make this information available to them
around the clock. Gifts to the Digital Library support the addition
of new online journals and databases, the development of search
software and the creation of instructional programs.
Biotechnology and Bioengineering Archives
The biotechnology industry began with UCSF's co-discovery of recombinant
DNA, and today nearly 70 California biotechnology companies have
been launched by UCSF faculty and alumni or as a result of their
scientific inventions. The Biotechnology and Bioengineering Archives
will document the pioneering leadership of UCSF and other Bay
Area scientists and corporations, creating an important resource
for researchers, students, policy makers and economists. Gifts
to the Archives support the collection and online storage of these
historical documents for the use of the entire UCSF community.
