School of Dentistry Annual Fund Priorities
Every year at the School of Dentistry, faculty in all departments
and leaders from the Associated Dental Students apply for grants
from the School’s Annual Fund to underwrite a wide range of
needs, from advanced technologies required for research to basic
supplies needed for the 14 student-run community dental clinics.
The School’s ability to fulfill these requests is critical
to its continued standing as the national leader in dentistry
education. Gifts to the Annual Fund provide the resources necessary
to respond to these needs in ways that maintain UCSF’s standard
of excellence.
Departmental Support
Each of the School’s departments provides superlative instruction
to students, conducts innovative research and helps operate various
community clinics. Departments supported by the Annual Fund include:
- Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences
- Department of Stomatology
- Department of Growth and Development
- Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Contributions to the Annual Fund provide critically needed new
equipment, teaching materials, support for volunteer clinical
faculty and resources for programs and clinics.
Community Outreach
Community outreach programs, in which students are active and
enthusiastic participants, are one way the School of Dentistry
fosters the development of outstanding clinicians. At both the
Community Dental Clinic and the Family Dental Clinic at San Francisco
General Hospital, students volunteer their time to conduct screenings
and provide dental care to indigent patients. Contributions to
the Annual Fund help purchase the materials needed to keep these
clinics operating.
