How are
biopsy specimens shipped to UCSF
Oral Pathology?
By FedEx or the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). FedEx
is preferred because delivery is consistently made within two days of
shipment. The USPS material usually takes 1-2 weeks.
Who pays
for shipment of biopsy specimens?
The UCSF Oral Pathology Diagnostic Service pays
for shipment using either FedEx or USPS.
Who
provides shipping labels?
The UCSF Oral Pathology Diagnostic Service
provides both preprinted FedEx Air Bills and USPS postage-paid labels,
as follows:
- - One preprinted FedEx label is returned with each biopsy report.
- - One USPS postage-paid label is included in each biopsy kit.
- - Extra FedEx labels can be requested by calling UCSF Oral Pathology
(415-476-4866) or by faxing a request (415-476-6482).
Who
provides FedEx shipping envelopes?
FedEx provides "Diagnostic Specimen Envelopes"
free of charge for the shipment of laboratory specimens
(1-800-463-3339).
What is
the expected turn-around time for biopsy reports?
A biopsy report is issued 48 hours after the
specimen arrives at UCSF Oral Pathology, except in the case of
immunohistochemical (four days) or direct immunofluorescence (DIF)
testing. DIF tests are generally run every Tuesday, with the
report issued the following day.
Can patients be assured that their personal
information remains private?
Both the UCSF Oral Biology Diagnostic Services and Rand medical Billing Corp. strictly adhere to
HIPAA reglulations to protect patient privacy and secure patient personal information.
