The UCSF Oral Pathology Biopsy Service,
founded
in 1967 by Dr. Louis S. Hansen, now accessions well over 6000 specimens annually
from over 3000 dental and
medical practitioners in the continental U.S. and Guam.
The laboratory suite is located in the UCSF Parnassus campus.
-
The
oral pathologists have over
100 years of combined experience in diagnostic
pathology.
-
FedEx (pre-printed
labels; 1-2 day service) specimen transport and biopsy
specimen kits (including free
postage) are provided at no cost to the practitioner.
Call 415-476-4866
to obtain FedEx forms and biopsy kits.
-
A written
pathology report is sent and faxed, if requested, to the
contributer on the second working day after receipt of the specimen
(except for specimens needing decalcification, special stains, or
immunohistochemical tests), and a
telephone report can be made one day after receipt.
-
Beginning in March 2004. patient billing was
transferred to the
Rand Medical Billing Corp. in Simi Valley, CA. All patient insurance
information
provided on the biopsy request form is sent by air courier to Rand so
that
processing and diagnostic fees are billed directly to that patient's
insurance
company. Patients who need assistance in reimbursements, want to add an
insurance carrier, or have any other billing questions should call Rand
at 1-888-582-3397, as
stated on their bill.
The Oral Pathology office has no information on Rand accounts. Patients can be assured that
all private personal information is kept secure in the UCSF Oral Pathology office. All aspects of the Service except
billing are done in-house, including transcription. Patient information is sent only to Rand Medical Billing.
The
Oral Pathology Faculty and Staff are committed to the highest quality
and state-of-the-art service for the practitioner and patient.
