Deadline for Martin Luther King Jr. Award Approaching

Nominations for the 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. Award are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct., 30, 2008. The purpose of the award is to recognize members of the campus community who have provided extraordinary leadership and inspiration, beyond the requirements of their job, in advancing the goals of social and economic justice at UCSF. The award recognizes exceptional leadership to further the goal of achieving greater diversity at UCSF. The award will be presented in conjunction with the campus celebration commemorating King in January. Each year, three individuals: one academic, one staff and one student, resident or postdoctoral scholar, are selected to receive the award. Each recipient receives $2,000. The award was developed by the Office of the Chancellor, the Office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and the Dr. King Commemoration Committee. The nomination form, award criteria and a list of previous award recipients are available on the Office of the Chancellor’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award site.
