UCSF to Show Staff Appreciation with Series of Events

For the second year in a row, UCSF is hosting staff appreciation events throughout the year, rather than the once-a-year celebrations that have occurred in the past. Chancellor Mike Bishop, MD, campus leaders are scheduled to greet staff personally at each location. Employees are invited to enjoy food, entertainment and prizes provided by Arts & Events and other staff appreciation partners. Last year, staff won movie tickets, gift certificates for campus dining and shopping, and tickets to see a San Francisco Giants game. "UCSF staff are truly exceptional," says Bishop. "The talent, drive and creativity they consistently exhibit is remarkable, and the campus leadership wants to publicly acknowledge this through staff appreciation events." The first of these year-round staff appreciation events kicks off Wednesday, Oct.17 at the Parnassus campus, where Mark Laret, chief executive officer of UCSF Medical Center, the Chancellor and other campus leaders will greet staff from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Millberry Union Gym.

Chancellor Mike Bishop greeted staff during an appreciation event at UCSF earlier this year.

Employees are invited to enjoy pastries and coffee, and enter a raffle for great prizes. These prizes include movie tickets, campus vendor certificates, a massage gift certificate and Macy's gift cards. Also, as part of these festivities, jazz pianist Dee Spencer will perform. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, from noon to 1 p.m., the campus community is invited to hear comedian and actor Marga Gomez in Cole Hall in the Medical Sciences Building on the Parnassus campus. An award-winning comic, Marga has been featured on HBO, PBS, Comedy Central, Showtime and The Logo Network. A Latina and one of America's first openly gay comedians, Gomez is known for her energetic and topical comedy flights. Staff appreciation celebrations also will be hosted at campuses with large populations in subsequent months: * Mission Bay: Wednesday, Nov. 28 * Mission Center Building: January 2008 * Mount Zion: March 2008 * San Francisco General Hospital: April 2008 * Laurel Heights: June 2008 The year-round celebrations are to recognize the dedication and service of UCSF staff and are the result of a collaboration between UCSF Medical Center and the campus.
