Experimental HIV Drug to Get Expanded Trials in SF

An experimental HIV drug, MK-0158, soon will become available to a select group of patients. Enrollment begins this week at San Francisco General Hospital for patients who have little or no other options. "This is a remarkable drug," said Steven G. Deeks, MD, associate clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at UCSF. The drug is a type of integrase inhibitor that stops HIV from replicating. Deeks, an expert on treating patients with HIV/AIDS who have run out of treatment options, elaborates on how this new drug works. Related Links:
