David Bangsberg, MD, MPH, discusses Wednesday's federal approval of a single pill, taken once daily, that combines three drugs used to treat HIV. Bangsberg spoke with Kim Mulvihill, MD, on KPIX-TV's HealthWatch segment Wednesday evening.
"The development of one pill, once a day, to treat HIV is a very important advancement," notes Bangsberg. "Missing medications is the number one predictor of who does well and who does poorly."
Bangsberg is associate professor of medicine in residence in the UCSF Department of Medicine's Division of Infectious Diseases and the AIDS division at San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center (SFGHMC). He directs the Epidemiology and Prevention Interventions Center, an infectious diseases epidemiology research unit, at SFGHMC.
