A New Look for ucsf.edu

Source: UCSF Public Affairs A yearlong review of audience needs and wants, changing web trends and growing capabilities culminates today with the debut of a modified look and organization for www.ucsf.edu. The changes simplify and better label content, introduce a news story hierarchy and redirect readers to zones of information. In the months ahead, web developers and designers in the Public Affairs department will be creating, testing and implementing a variety of new products, pages and components. The goal: to make www.ucsf.edu more interactive, responsive and substantive. Here are some key features of the new main page:
  • News Center: This zone is reserved for the most important stories of the day and week, as well as topics - stem cells and overseas outreach, for example - that showcase UCSF experts.
  • Audiences and Find-It Features: The audience categories have moved under the web banner at the top of the page. The A-Z list and the directory are now part of the left navigation. Campus maps are in the footer.
  • Calendar: The calendar is now one of four main categories in the center of the main page.
  • UCSF Today: This popular online daily, begun in 1998, continues, but will now concentrate on stories of more immediate campus interest.
  • Features:This new element will be home to thoughtful, fun and engaging stories about ideas, people, achievements, insights and oddities that give UCSF its distinctive character.
  • Multimedia: In this new category, expect to see a growing list of audio interviews and videos that bring UCSF to life.
The remainder of the page should look familiar. The large, clickable image, most of the main navigation, shortcuts and the web banner are important carryovers that have helped to make the main page a busy crossroads. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. [email protected]
