Women's Health
a new paradigm
Medical
science has long focused on male physiology, often failing to
recognize that women’s bodies react differently to diseases
and treatments. UCSF is working to redress the resulting inequities
in health-care services that have historically placed the health
of women at risk.
The UCSF Center of Excellence in Women’s Health is proud
to be one of six original Centers designated by the United States
Department of Health and Human Service's Office of Women's Health
in 1996. Today, 21 such institutions have been established,
and all are working together to provide comprehensive and state-of-the-art
health care for women, promote an extensive women's health research
agenda, build partnerships and links with community groups and
organizations and educate tomorrow's health-care providers about
the principles of women's health.
Gifts to this priority will fund faculty recruitment and further
development of education, research and community programs that
focus on the improvement of health care for women.
