Diabetes
its days are numbered
The
Diabetes Center at UCSF has a singular mission to improve the
lives of diabetes patients in the Bay Area and around the world.
To fulfill this mission, UCSF recently renovated the Diabetes
Care Center to better meet the needs of its patients, including:
-
Integrated Patient Care: The
Diabetes Care Center provides team-oriented patient care with
diabetes specialists working with 30 other subspecialties throughout
the UCSF medical system. This integrated approach to caring
for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes uses proven measures
to reduce the incidence of diabetes complications.
-
Innovative Patient Education:
The UCSF Diabetes Teaching Center's renowned patient education
programs provide patients with diabetes with the knowledge and
skills they need to make appropriate adjustments in therapy
and lifestyle.
-
Cutting-Edge Clinical Trials:
The new UCSF Islet and Cellular Transplantation Center is making
revolutionary islet transplantation therapies available for
the first time in Northern California, and the renovated Care
Center now houses the office of diabetes clinical trials, where
patients can learn how to participate in novel new treatments
and therapies, including islet cell transplantation.
Already renowned as a leader in diabetes research, the Diabetes
Center continues to build on its outstanding clinical and education
programs and to expand its role as the preeminent West Coast facility
for diabetes care. In a time of groundbreaking discoveries that
promise to revolutionize diabetes treatment, UCSF researchers and
clinicians are poised to lead the way to novel new therapies for
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
