School of Medicine Fundraising Priorities
The UCSF School of Medicine bears an enormous responsibility to
its students and to the public at large. Gifts to this priority
will support residency programs, a digital library, a standardized
patient center and a clinical simulation/skills center within the
new Medical Education and Research Center as well as other research
and training initiatives for Central Valley physicians.
The School of Medicine's education fundraising priorities have
been chosen to reflect the School’s most pressing needs. Featured priorities include:
Student Scholarships
In addition to rigorous coursework, many students also face significant
challenges in financing their medical education. Help for these
students is doubly important because frequently they are the students
who are most likely to practice in underserved communities after
they leave UCSF, providing outstanding care where it is most critically
needed. Gifts to this priority will fund grants, scholarships
and stipends enabling students to reach their full potential.
Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators
The Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators is dedicated to
creating an environment that enhances the status of teachers of
medical students at UCSF, promotes and rewards teaching excellence
and fosters curricular innovation. Gifts to this priority will establish
staff development programs, promote expansion and implementation
of the School of Medicine’s innovative new curriculum and
provide faculty development grants to gifted teachers.
UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program
The UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program, a unique community-university
partnership, is a model physician-training program. The program
provides residents of the Central Valley—the most medically
underserved area in the state of California—with access
to the highest quality health-care services. Gifts to this priority
will fund the construction of a Medical Education and Research
Center in Fresno, which will house residency programs, a digital
library, a standardized patient center and a clinical simulation/skills
center.
Faculty Chairs and Professorships
To retain its leadership position, the School of Medicine must
have the resources to recruit the most esteemed teaching faculty
and to support their work so they won’t be drawn away to
better-endowed institutions. Gifts to this priority will enable
the School to hire talented and visionary scientists who are world
leaders in their areas of expertise.
