School of Pharmacy Annual Fund
At the UCSF School of Pharmacy, an exceptional faculty continually
push the boundaries of the profession and share lessons learned
with an equally exceptional student body. Yet financial obstacles
threaten to compromise the School’s capacity to attract
the finest teachers and researchers as well as the most promising
student applicants.
Funding from the State of California has been declining and is
now barely 20 percent of the School’s total budget. That
is why Annual Fund contributions are increasingly important, as
they bridge this fiscal gap in ways that directly benefit students
and faculty.
Featured Annual Fund priorities of the School of Pharmacy include:
Pathways Research Projects
Pathways, the foundation of the new PharmD curriculum, introduces
pharmacy students to the broad range of career possibilities open
to them on graduation. Contributions to the Annual Fund supply
funding for fourth-year students’ required research projects.
Pharmacy Teaching Assistants
Teaching assistants are top upperclass men and women who use
their own recent experiences to guide younger students. Everyone
profits from this innovative program: Students receive more personalized
instruction, faculty gets a helping hand and the assistants themselves,
many of whom go on to pursue careers in academia, gain valuable
experience. Contributions to the Annual Fund provide stipends
to the assistants and are essential to the program’s continued
success.
Professional Development Scholarships
The School of Pharmacy encourages students to become involved
in pharmacy professional organizations and to take advantage of
opportunities to present their research. Contributions to the
Annual Fund support professional development scholarships that
provide small travel stipends to students who are invited to take
part in professional presentations and conferences.
Summer Research Program
For students interested in obtaining both the PharmD and PhD
degrees, the Summer Research Program offers mentored, “hands-on”
summer laboratory research experiences in clinical pharmacy, biopharmaceutical
sciences or pharmaceutical chemistry. Contributions to the Annual
Fund help sponsor several enthusiastic and highly qualified applicants
who need financial assistance to attend.
