UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management
laboratory of ideas
The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management is
an invaluable and comprehensive resource for UCSF students, faculty
and staff as well as for doctors, nurses and health-care providers
at UCSF and all over the Bay Area. Additionally, its unique online
resources are utilized by students, caregivers and researchers
around the world.
Among the Library's resources are papers and records relating
to the AIDS epidemic and the birth of the biotechnology industry.
The Library also houses a unique Asian art collection, including
a set of approximately 400 Japanese woodblock prints
(Ukiyo-e) from the 17th through the early 20th centuries. This
is the largest set of Japanese woodblock prints on the subject
of health and medicine in the United States.
UCSF's Tobacco Control Archives and Legacy Tobacco
Documents Library constitute the largest public digital collection
maintained by any library in the world. In addition, faculty and staff
at the Center for Instructional Technology are working to develop
new technologies to teach the health sciences.
To preserve the integrity of these impressive collections, the
Library has established fundraising priorities to direct gifts to
its most urgent needs as well as an Honor with Books Program to
provide supplemental resources for special projects.
