Faculty FAQ

Unsure about how to proceed with your proposal? Want to find out how to secure a sponsorship for your event? Read below to see if one of our Frequently Asked Questions will address your query.

Q. My Dean (chair, other faculty member) has an idea for a project. Can you meet with us to discuss this?

A. Please take a look at our Program Development and Project and Prospect Worksheet pages. Once you've reviewed the information and submitted a Project Worksheet, we're happy to meet with you to discuss viable funding possibilities.

Q. The foundation I'd like to approach appears on a list of "centrally coordinated foundations." What does this mean, and how do I go about contacting this foundation?

A. While we encourage multiple approaches to most donors, a small number of leading private foundations have requested that UCSF coordinate inquiries and formal applications – whether the approach is in response to a formal RFP or a general submission, and whether it will result in a gift or a grant. In order to best facilitate a relationship between these donors and the University, we've compiled a list of centrally coordinated foundations, and we ask that you check with us as to the best way of approaching them.

Atlantic Philanthropies W. M. Keck Foundation

Hartwell Foundation Kresge Foundation
William Randolph Hearst Foundations Jeffrey Modell Foundation

Q. I think my grant proposal is complete, but can you explain these financial documents I need to attach?

A. Most common proposal attachments, including UC, UCSF, and UCSF Foundation financial information and non-profit status letters, are available from our office.

.................................

Q. I have an event in six weeks. How can I get a corporate sponsor?

A. Generally, securing corporate sponsorships takes a significant amount of time, and is not something to be approached this close to an event deadline. Contact us for further information.

Q. I've just received a gift check from a foundation. What do I do with it?

A. Please contact Gift Administration for the proper procedures for logging a gift.
