Useful County Data Resources

Fresno County “Children Count” Report Card
The Interagency Council for Children and Families in Fresno County recently released its second report card (the first provided baseline data), examining indicators in five domains measuring the health and well being of children.  These domains include Education, Health, Quality of Life, Safety, and Economics. The report card project is intended to provide standardized and consistent longitudinal data and information for policymakers, service providers, advocacy groups, and community members involved with improving the well being of children in Fresno County. This report provides an excellent example of the use of indicators to provide a quantitative picture of children’s health and welfare, and to use them as a measure of progress toward achieving children’s health objectives over time.  The report can be viewed at Cal State Fresno.

Trainings

EpiBC 2005 - Save the Date!
EpiBC is tentatively scheduled for April 13, 2005.  This is a one-day training designed for MCAH staff to learn and practice EpiBC 2005 (which will be released to the public in March/April 2005). EpiBC 2005 is a Windows-based software program for analyzing California birth certificate data based on EpiInfo, a public domain analytical software package from the Centers for Disease Control. Due to the high demand and limited space of this workshop, we highly suggest you register early when registration opens. Check back on our Training page for date, location, and registration.

Spotlight

Obesity
Based on the health jurisdiction's Needs Assessment Reports, obesity was identified as a priority area by almost 40 health jurisdictions in California.  To assist in intervention planning FHOP brought in guest speakers with expert knowledge on the topic, to workshops held in October 2004. Course materials for the workshops can be found at FHOP Trainings.  In addition, FHOP identified several resources on obesity and overweight issues.  Recently, FHOP added materials from the Center for Health Improvement’s Panel on Obesity Prevention Strategies.  This includes links to panelists’ presentations, policy briefs, and resources.  Other obesity-planning resources posted on the FHOP site include problem analysis diagrams, links to websites, literature references, and contact information for our guest speakers.
