Intervention Planning Resources
FHOP is continually adding resources to its website to provide tools and information to assist MCAH programs in addressing their priority problem areas.  These resources include sample problem analyses, links to useful web pages, publications, and bibliographies.  If you have difficulty accessing an article in a bibliography, contact FHOP and we will assist you.  In addition, several of the presenters from the fall technical assistance workshops have graciously offered to be contacts for local MCAH seeking further information on addressing problem areas.

Training
Analyzing Problems and Developing Interventions
On November 15, 2004, FHOP will be hosting the last one-day workshop for MCAH staff to: (1) increase knowledge about specific MCAH health problems and effective interventions and (2) use this information, apply a systematic process, and begin to identify and develop possible effective interventions for their communities.  Experts in the priority problem areas will be discussing current knowledge about the subject area and relevant “Best Practices.”  The training will also focus on applying the expert information to your local problem analysis.  FHOP strongly encourages your county to bring a team of 2-3 people, specifically, those working on action planning for the priority problems identified in your Title V Needs Assessment Report.  Register soon to reserve a seat!  Visit the Training schedule to see a more complete listing .

Training Materials
FHOP has recently made the training materials available from the October training workshops, “Analyzing Problems and Developing Interventions.”

Spotlight
New from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation: "Disparities in Maternal and Child Health: Are We Making Progress? Lessons from California." This is a report produced for the foundation by the UCSF Center for Social Disparities in Health. It summarizes data on changes between 1994-1995 and 1999-2001 in three indicators of Maternal and Infant Health: (1) percent of pregnancies that were unintended, (2) percent of women with delayed or no prenatal care, and (3) percent of women who did not breastfeed their infants. Disparities in these indicators were defined by income level, years if education and race/ethnicity. Please go to Intervention Planning Resources under Prenatal Care if you to read this report.
