FHOP Express
September 2003
Product Releases + Updates
NEW! The revised Planning Guide is now available through the FHOP website at http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/fhopplan.html. The guide contains all the revised chapters and appendices. FHOP strongly recommends using the complete guide, as you work on your Five Years Needs Assessment.

FHOP has compiled county-level population data, by age group and by race/ethnicity for 1989-2001. These spreadsheets are available  at http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/mch-data.htm under CA MCH data: population/census indicators.

Training
FHOP will be hosting "Community Assessment 1: Basic Concepts,"  a one-day training designed for new MCH staff to introduce them to community needs assessment. Content will include an overview of the concepts and components of community assessment; coalition building; developing a community profile; assessing population needs, current system's capacity, and community assets; selecting health indicators; and reviewing basic data concepts.   This workshop will be on October 8, 2003 at the DoubleTree Hotel Sacramento in Sacramento, CA.  Registration is now closed.

On December 10, 2003, FHOP will be hosting "Qualitative Data Methods," a one-day training designed for MCH staff to learn about various qualitative data methods. The training focuses on data methods for needs assessment where there are small numbers of individuals. While the training is intended for sparsely populate counties, individuals from other counties may find it useful for study of sub-populations of small geographic areas.  Seats fill up fast, so register now!  For more information, go to: http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/fhoptrain3.htm#qual.

FHOP has recently posted this year's training schedule.  To register for FHOP trainings, check out the trainings section of our website at: http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/fhoptrain3.htm.

Spotlight
To assist counties in quickly locating the data for required Indicators for the Title V Assessments, FHOP has added to its website a list of the indicators, their definitions, and the associated tables or web resources from which county-level data can be drawn. This list will be updated on an ongoing basis, as FHOP adds more current data to existing tables, and creates tables for additional indicators. Please keep checking back to the website under California MCH Data/Required Title V Indicators. Questions about this resource can be directed to Brianna Gass at 415-476-5283. Check this out at: http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/mch-data.htm
