FHOP Express
December 2003 Data Alert
Perinatal Spreadsheets
FHOP has just posted updated perinatal spreadsheets for each local health jurisdiction.  These tables  now include data for 2001 on the same indicators as the previous version. Within the next 3-4 weeks , FHOP will add 2002 data AND the 4 new Title V required indicators. Another Data Alert will be sent to you once it is completed.

MCH Tools
FHOP has developed a tool that counties will be required  to use to summarize their assessments of Title V required indicators.  The tool is a Microsoft Excel document that can be downloaded from the Title V resources section of the FHOP website at http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/mch-data.htm .  This will provide counties with a visual summary of their indicators.  The value for each indicator is listed, along with how that value compares to the state and associated Healthy People 2010 objectives.  Counties will also specify which indicators  identified priority problem areas selected by their planning group and the reasoning used in their selection processes.  This form must be sent back to FHOP (ideally via email), for use in their development of a summary of the indicator assessments for CA MCH.

Now available on the FHOP website are the MCH Capacity Rating and Reporting Tool, the Supplement/Guidance to Assist Use of the MCH Capacity Rating and Reporting Tool and the Assessment Worksheets, and the MCH Program Capacity Assessment Worksheet. These are located on the website at http://www.ucsf.edu/fhop/t5_tools.htm .  They are the capacity assessment tools recommended in the State's California MCH Five Year Needs Assessment Guidelines & Indicator List to Assist Your Local MCH Program Capacity Assessment, as referenced on page 4E) Assessment of MCH Capacity.   The purpose of the rating and reporting tool is to (1) summarize and organize the program assessment information for your program's internal use, (2) share information with the planning group about program capacity and resources (this information should be used to aid in identifying feasible interventions and setting priorities), and (3) provide rating information for use by the State in its assessment of overall statewide MCH capacity.

If your MCH program has used another capacity assessment process, such as the Mobilization for Action through Planning and Partnership (MAPP), this tool can still be helpful as a format for summarizing the results of the assessment specific to your MCH program.  For additional questions and clarification,  please do not hesitate to call FHOP at (415) 476-5283.
