Dean Vlahov Receives Visionary Pioneer Award from Alma Mater

October 24, 2014 UC San Francisco School of Nursing Dean David Vlahov, RN, PhD, has been honored by his alma mater. As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the University of Maryland School of Nursing will honor Vlahov and 24 other outstanding alumni as “visionary pioneers” who have become expert clinicians, educators, and leaders in Maryland, the nation, and around the world.

Three UCSF Faculty Elected to Institute of Medicine

October 24, 2014 Three UCSF faculty members are among 70 new members and 10 foreign associates of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) announced during the organization’s 44th annual meeting announced on Oct. 20. Eric P. Goosby, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Institute of Global Health Delivery and Diplomacy; Deepak Srivastava, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease; and Ron Vale, PhD, professor of cellular and molecular pharmacology and Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator are the latest UCSF members, bringing the total number of IOM members elected from UCSF to 92.

National Senior Citizens Law Center Honors Estes

October 20, 2014 On the evening of Oct. 17, the National Senior Citizens Law Center (NSCLC) honored UC San Francisco School of Nursing’s Carroll Estes, PhD, with the organization’s Second Annual Paul Nathanson Distinguished Advocacy Award for her work on aging and elder women’s economic and health security.

Tseng Receives Funding to Study HIV/AIDS, Sudden Cardiac Death

October 07, 2014 Zian H. Tseng, MD, MAS, associate professor of medicine in residence in the Cardiology Division and Cardiac Electrophysiology Service at UC San Francisco, received a four-year $2.14 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand on his research of people with HIV/AIDS and their increased risk of sudden cardiac death.

Grandis Appointed New Associate Vice Chancellor of Clinical and Translational Research

October 06, 2014 Jennifer R. Grandis, MD, has been appointed UC San Francisco's Associate Vice Chancellor of Clinical and Translational Research (AVC-CTR) on Oct. 6. She will begin her new post in January 2015 while also holding a faculty appointment as professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

September 11, 2014 Bruce Wintroub, MD, has been named interim dean of the UCSF School of Medicine while a search committee looks for a permanent replacement. Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS, made the announcement Sept. 11.
