The application deadline and receipt of all application materials for fall 2008 is December 28, 2007.

Required Application Materials

  • Graduate Division Application fee of $60 for US and Permanent Resident applicants , $80 for international applicants may be paid on-line. The application fees are non-refundable.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning (minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA).
  • Official score report from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (general test), taken within the last five years (the subject GRE in biology or chemistry is optional).

  • Statement of Purpose ­ describe goals, interests, and research experience
  • Research Summary
  • Resume/curriculum vitae
  • A minimum of three letters of recommendation download form

Please make your transcript requests at least three weeks in advance of the December 28, 2007 deadline.

Official GRE scores should be received by the December 28th deadline. However, we will accept self-reported scores (numerical and percentile) on the application in advance of receipt of the official ETS results. These self-reported scores should be received by December 28th.

Three letters of recommendation are required. It is the applicant's responsibility to contact recommenders to request letters. Please follow up with your recommenders to ensure that letters have been written and will arrive by the December 28th deadline. We advise you to request that your recommenders send the letters at least three weeks in advance to ensure receipt by the deadline.

Standardized exam requirements:

  • An official score report of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required of all applicants.
  • Only the general test scores are required.
  • Request an official GRE score report: use Institution code R4840 and Dept. code 0613 to assure delivery.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all international applicants.

  • The TOEFL can be waived if an applicant has studied in the United States for at least one year.
  • Request an official TOEFL score report: use Institution Code R4840 to assure delivery.
