Academic Health Care Forum Honors Bill Kerr A symposium on "Academic Healthcare: Market Commodity or Public Good" will be hosted by the UCSF School of Medicine on Friday, Feb. 2, 2:30 p.m., in room N 225. The forum honors Bill Kerr, former director of the UCSF Medical Center who served in that post for two decades. Four national leaders in academic medicine will participate in a panel discussion. They are: Jordan Cohen, president of the Association of Academic Medical Colleges; David Lawrence, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals; Ralph Muller, president and CEO of the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System; and Ralph Snyderman, Chancellor for Health Affairs at Duke University, executive dean of the School of Medicine and Allied Health, and president and CEO of Duke University Health System. Kerr joined UCSF Medical Center in 1970 as assistant director, was named associate director in 1974 and was appointed medical center director in 1977. He also served as chief operating officer of the now dismantled UCSF Stanford Health Care. Last April, he stepped down as an advisor to UCSF Chancellor Mike Bishop. |
