Researcher Honored by National Academy of Sciences

Erin K. O'SheaErin K. O'Shea, associate professor of biochemistry and biophysics, is one of a select group of scientists who will be honored by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) for their outstanding achievements.

O'Shea was recently named the winner of the NAS Award in Molecular Biology. The award, which includes a medal and a prize of $25,000, is presented annually for a recent notable discovery in molecular biology by a young scientist. O'Shea was chosen "for contributions to our understanding of signal transduction, regulation of protein movement into and out of the nucleus, and how phosphorylation controls protein activity." The award is currently supported by the Monsanto Co. and has been presented since 1962.

The award, along with honors to 17 other outstanding scientists, will be presented April 30 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., during the NAS' 138th annual meeting.
